Some houses need us to create a mood. This one showed up with its own. When nearly every main room of a three-level Daly City home looks straight out at the Pacific, the staging brief pretty much writes itself — and it's four words long: don't upstage the ocean.

Rule one: nothing tall in front of the windows

Let's be honest. Nobody has ever stood in front of an unobstructed ocean view and thought, "You know what this needs? A really big bookshelf." On the main level we kept the furniture low and the sightlines wide open: curved, off-white upholstered chairs and a long natural-wood console, all sitting comfortably below the windowline so the view could do the heavy lifting. It's very good at it.

We let the view pick the colors

Instead of walking in with a color story and hoping the ocean agreed, we borrowed one from outside. The main floor stays in warm whites and natural wood tones, and soft blues and sage greens show up as you head upstairs. Think of it as dressing to match the venue.

The deck gets a real job

A deck with this view isn't a deck. It's a second living room with better lighting. We gave it a pair of rattan chairs pointed right at the water, because if a buyer is going to picture their morning coffee anywhere in this house, it's happening out here.

Upstairs: agree with the room

The third-floor primary suite is the showstopper: pale blue walls, a white beamed ceiling, and two windows facing the ocean. Honestly, our main job up there was to nod along. Sage green pillows picked up the colors of the coast, and a pair of black globe lamps added just enough contrast to keep all that dreamy softness from drifting out to sea.

Give each floor its own personality

Downstairs has a cooler, calmer feel, so we leaned in: a gray sofa, terracotta pillows, and a big piece of art to make it cozy. Three floors with three slightly different moods keeps a large home from feeling like the same room on repeat — and gives buyers a reason to keep exploring.

The takeaway

When a home comes with a feature this spectacular, staging isn't about adding more. It's about editing, framing, and then politely getting out of the way. The ocean did its job. We just made sure nothing blocked its shot.
